About This Opportunity

This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safety and security of University buildings, rural grounds, staff, students and visitors, while delivering a professional and responsive service aligned with UQ’s Standards of Operation and Standards of Personal Conduct.

We are building a casual talent pool to support 24/7 operations and provide relief coverage for planned leave, sick leave, major events and peak operational periods.

Gatton operates with smaller shift teams, requiring officers who are confident working independently while remaining connected to central security operations at St Lucia.

Please note: This is a casual opportunity. Shifts are not guaranteed and may be offered with short notice depending on operational requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Under supervision attend all response to alarms, medical emergencies, fire emergencies, or other matters as they arise.
  • Respond to enquiries/complaints of public/staff/students.
  • Lock, patrol and provide access for authorised personnel to University buildings.
  • Bring to the immediate notice of the Security Supervisor any matter of priority or emergency.
  • Conduct enforcement of parking and traffic regulations and control.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations into all incidents as directed.
  • Prepare full, detailed and accurate reports by the end of each shift of all incidents that occurred during the shift using standard formats.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the Manager Security (MS), the Deputy Manager Security (DMS) or the Security Supervisor (SS) or delegate.

Please Note: A successful applicant will need to have full availability to attend 5 weeks full-time training.

About You

  • Current Queensland Certificate II in Security Operations that includes Security Officer Unarmed, Crowd Control, Bodyguard and Monitoring modules.
  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Current Queensland Manual Open Drivers Licence.

In addition, you will demonstrate:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Sound judgement and confident decision-making in lower support environments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency using security monitoring systems and preparing reports
  • Professionalism, tact and restraint when managing challenging situations
  • Experience responding to emergency situations in operational environments

The successful candidate will be required to complete background checks including, right to work in Australia and Criminal History check.
