THE ROLE

CDT Manager – UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Digital Media Inclusion

Are you passionate about inclusive innovation, strategic leadership, and the transformative potential of AI in digital media?

This dynamic new role is central to empowering the next generation of PhD researchers who will develop responsible and inclusive AI technologies for the digital media industries.

As CDT Manager, you will:

  • Lead, plan, and execute all operational and strategic activities across our two partner universities.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for a wide range of stakeholders – from PhD researchers and academic leaders to industry collaborators.
  • Ensure high standards of governance, accountability, and training delivery.
  • Line-manage and support a high-performing professional services team.
  • Work closely with the CDT leadership and the PAI Director of Strategy to align efforts with Surrey’s mission in People-Centred AI.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Thrives in complex, cross-institutional environments.
  • Brings extensive experience in programme/project management, ideally in research or higher education.
  • Communicates with clarity, compassion, and professionalism.
  • Is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both technology and teamwork.
  • Has a proactive attitude driven by enthusiasm for AI and creative technologies.

WHY JOIN US?

At the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI, we believe in a future where AI works for everyone. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence how the next wave of AI research contributes to a fairer, more inclusive digital society.

We offer a generous pension, relocation assistance where appropriate, flexible working options including job share and blended home/campus working locations (dependent on work duties), access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent onsite nursery.
