Job Description
This position requires the following knowledge and abilities:
- Teach 30 credits per academic year in chemistry. Courses include introductory and general chemistry lectures and laboratories.
- Teach courses at a variety of times and/or delivery modalities such as days, evenings, face-to-face in the classroom, in hybrid formats, and online asynchronous formats.
- Hold regular office hours.
- Design and teach courses in the approved curriculum using teaching methods that support the success of diverse students.
- Assess student learning and academic achievement at classroom, department/program, and college levels.
- Participate regularly in department meetings and in department responsibilities such as budgets, schedules, articulation agreements, program reviews, program assessment, and curricula development.
- Available and willing to be actively engaged in college community and activities around student success.
- Participate in service to the college and the greater community, such as college-wide committees and external partnerships.
- Participate in achieving annual college, division, and departmental priorities.
- Continually develop expertise in the field and in teaching through professional development.
Salary Range
Salary and benefits will be based on the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF) and the State of Minnesota. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Salary min: $51,303 / Salary max: $71,893 (Column max: $94,542). Existing faculty would keep their current salary or candidates with higher education levels could be placed higher in the salary range.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree with a major in Chemistry or Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in Chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with diverse populations and underrepresented groups.
- Teaching experience at the community/technical college level or demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of community and technical colleges. Experience in designing or improving existing courses and teaching introductory or general chemistry in at least two or more of the following instructional modalities: face-to-face in the classroom, hybrid (online and face-to-face), online synchronous or online asynchronous.
- Experience in teaching with active and/or experiential learning strategies, including laboratory.
- Experience in assessment of student learning that includes a variety of summative and formative strategies.
- Evidence of active and continuous professional development.
