Several research centers in the greater Montréal area are affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal. As a faculty member of the department, you will be invited to develop your research program either within our facilities on campus, in a hospital or rehabilitation setting, or within one of the affiliated research centers, depending on your research themes.

Day-to-day responsibilities

As Department chair, you will take the lead in defining the priorities and projects for the Department. You will be at the heart of the Department’s management and development, all while ensuring that departmental decisions respect the University's strategic vision, its policies and regulations, and its collective agreements. You will be expected to:

  • Develop a vision and set priorities for the Department in terms of research, teaching programs, and knowledge mobilization;
  • Collaborate in the creation and proper functioning of the Department’s study and professional development programs and ensure their quality;
  • Assign professorial duties and, when necessary, create courses to meet the needs of pedagogical innovation and continuous program improvement;
  • Oversee the recruitment of academic staff and support professors in their career development;
  • Develop the Department’s strategic plans while assuming budgetary responsibility;
  • Manage and develop the Department’s philanthropic fund, ensuring its sustainability and promoting research and the development of the next generation.

The Chair’s term is for an initial period of four (4) years, renewable once.

Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Actively teach within the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, as well as within other programs of the Faculty;
  • Supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students, contributing to their academic and scientific training;
  • Develop an innovative and internationally recognized research program with the objective of achieving long-term financial autonomy;
  • Contribute actively to the effective functioning of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by participating in various committees and working groups, thereby strengthening institutional life;
  • Actively promote the discipline through conferences, scientific publications, and the organization of major scientific events.

Qualifications

  • Hold a doctorate in the discipline or the equivalent of a doctorate with a combination of post-professional studies, experience, and research activities deemed equivalent;
  • Have substantial research experience, as evidenced by high-level publications;
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality university teaching and supervision;
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop interdisciplinary collaborations at the internal, national and international levels;
  • Have a functional proficiency in English;
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
