Chair - Department of Education Resources

SUMMARY

Stephen F. Austin State University, a member of The University of Texas System, seeks an innovative leader to serve as chair of the newly created Department of Education Resources. The chair will report to the Dean of the newly reorganized James I. Perkins College of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Candidates should hold the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in an academic area within the department and may be assigned teaching duties as necessary.

As part of an exciting academic reorganization, Education Resources will be separated from its current academic unit, the Department of Education Studies, and will be established as an independent department in summer 2026. The new unit will house approximately 16 full-time faculty and staff and offer undergraduate and graduate programs in Special Education; Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Student Affairs and Higher Education; and Educational Leadership.

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated track record of effective program-level leadership and a strong understanding of the Texas Education Agency requirements related to teacher and non-teacher certification. The chair will be expected to collaborate with the on-campus Charter School (K-5), Early Childhood Lab (infant to pre-K), and the Office of Assessment and Accountability, in addition to other divisions that support educator preparation. The chair will play a critical role in the leadership and success of the newly merged college and the SFA Educator Preparation Program.
