Adjunct Instructor - DCCL: IDSL 855 Managing Financial Resources, Doctorate in Community College Leadership (DCCL)
Position Summary
Ferris State University seeks qualified candidates to teach part-time in the Doctorate in Community College Leadership (DCCL) program. Instruction occurs on campus, at off-campus locations, and online.
Course Assignment: IDSL 855 Managing Financial Resources. Provides an overview of the budgetary concepts and processes that are foundational to the financial health of community colleges, including decision-making frameworks, analytical tools, capital planning, technology planning, and state and federal regulations and practices.
This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. Applications will be retained until vacancies arise, at which time qualified candidates may be contacted.
This posting is for a 7-1/2 week mixed delivery course – typically one face-to-face weekend (either in Michigan or Houston, Texas) followed by online instruction. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, or Wisconsin after acceptance of employment and the duration of time performing services for Ferris State University. Please note, if you relocate after being hired to a state not listed above, your employment with Ferris will not continue.
The anticipated start date of this position is May 2026 at the earliest and August 2026 at the latest.
Required Education
Earned doctorate (PhD, EdD, or JD) in a discipline relevant to community college leadership.
Required Work Experience
Significant administrative experience in a community college or relevant subject-matter expertise (e.g., higher education finance, budgeting and resource allocation, strategic planning, or fiscal policy in postsecondary education). Applicants must demonstrate substantial leadership or administrative experience at the mid- to senior level within a community college or comparable higher education institution, along with documented teaching experience in higher education.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Teach doctoral-level courses in the Doctorate in Community College Leadership (DCCL) program through mixed delivery formats (e.g., online, hybrid, or off-campus instruction).
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to keeping regularly posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional functions that have academic significance (i.e., reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time), and engaging in other duties of instructional significance. Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus and will teach online for this position.
Operate university motor or personal vehicles safely while carrying out job responsibilities.
Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop initiatives to enhance university student enrollment and retention.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered
Experience teaching in doctoral-level programs. Experience teaching in an online or hybrid format. Certificate in Online Teaching or equivalent credential. Administrative leadership experience within a community college or similar higher education environment.
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Salary and Benefits
A minimum of $6,600 per course. Salary commensurate with education, experiences and other requirements.
