"Chair Professor / Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in GeoSystems and GeoEngineering under Strategic Hiring Scheme"

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is seeking highly motivated individuals with expertise in geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering, climate resilience, nature-based geotechnical solutions, AI applications in geotechnics, or related disciplines.

Duties

• Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in related disciplines.
• Conduct impactful research leading to publications in high-quality refereed journals, secure external grants, and address real-world challenges.
• Undertake research, programme/curriculum development, and administration.
• Supervise student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Engage in industrial and scholarly research/consultancy activities.
• Undertake academic and departmental administrative duties.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or delegates.

Qualifications

• A PhD in Engineering or Science, specializing in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research, with experience in innovative approaches like AI or data science in geotechnical contexts.
• Strong records of high-quality research, publications, and scholarship in relevant areas.
• Good networking ability and potential to become a world-leading scholar.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to use English as the medium of instruction.
• Strong interdisciplinary research vision for collaboration.
• For Chair Professor: Outstanding record of global leadership and research achievement with substantial post-qualification experience.
• For Professor or Associate Professor: Substantial years of experience and excellent record of academic/research achievement. Less experienced applicants may be considered for Assistant Professor.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Appointees under the Strategic Hiring Scheme receive a start-up grant of not less than HK$3 million for research activities in the initial three years. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor is on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract, with re-engagement subject to mutual agreement. Appropriate terms for higher levels.
