Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for nursing care at a correctional facility. Implements unit objectives and administrative policies.
Major/Essential Functions
- Provides direct nursing services to patients in the health facility following standards of care of the department. Timely, concisely, and appropriately documents activities in patients’ health records.
- Ensures health facility clinical team timely, concisely, and appropriately documents patient care activities in patients’ health records. Establishes and executes departmental standards for clinical documentation with health facility leadership and providers.
- Ensures health facility clinical team is appropriately trained and supported to effectively provide clinical services to patients. Includes managing departmental standards, regular competency assessments of team members.
- Ensures the clinical activities are in compliance with departmental standards, all laws and regulations. Monitors health quality through assessment, audit, and response to audits.
- Leads investigations and responses to observed concerns, incidents reported, and/or audits to ensure appropriate corrective action plans are created, implemented, and monitored.
- Ensures team members have current and accurate records of performance, credentials, and other assessments to support the department’s activities in ensuring appropriate care and departmental compliance expectations are met.
- Coordinates with clinical team members and other Charge RNs to ensure appropriate staffing at all times is met at the health facility. Including coordinating external staffing.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification and/or position description.
Registered Nurse Shift Differential
- Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
- Night Shift Employees:
- Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday.
- Earn an extra $8.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
Required Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Two years of nursing experience, with at least 6 months of that experience as a Registered Nurse. Possession of a valid, current RN license as approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in nursing with at least 2 years of experience as an RN supervisor.
- Prior experience working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Emergency Room (ER) preferred
