Summary of Position

The Chemistry Department at Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) is seeking a Part-Time Chemistry Instructor to provide high-quality instruction and support student success in chemistry courses. This position reports to the Department Chair of Chemistry. The work schedule for this position is variable weekdays, day and/or evening hours, at the Lakewood campus location. May require hours outside of the normal work schedule. This position may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.

Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise, including instruction, student assessment, and related responsibilities. Instructional delivery may be face-to-face, hybrid, or online, and classes may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekends. Instructors are expected to meet all scheduled class periods, start and end classes promptly, and teach the assigned curriculum using the required texts and materials. A complete syllabus must be provided before the first day of class, outlining course descriptions, objectives, grading policies, and contact information. Attendance data, including no-shows and last date of attendance, must be reported promptly. Faculty are required to use technology effectively, including meeting the minimum standards for using Desire2Learn (D2L), the college's learning management system.

Instructors must maintain accurate grading records in D2L, submit final grades via Banner by the deadline, and provide consistent, timely feedback on student progress. Preparation for each class should consider diverse learning styles and relate directly to course objectives. Communication with students and staff must occur within 24-48 hours during the class term and for at least one week after final grades are submitted. Faculty are also expected to attend department meetings and provide regular updates to the department chair.

Additional responsibilities include developing lesson plans and assessments aligned with course competencies, evaluating student performance per stated learning outcomes, submitting syllabi to the Faculty Lead a week before classes begin, and conducting end-of-semester student evaluations. Instructors must also complete D2L training, attend the New Faculty and Instructor Orientation, and participate in department-led mentoring and assessment initiatives. This posting will be used to fill multiple part-time Instructor vacancies. Finalists must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses. Courses available for instruction include CHE 1011 (Introduction to Chemistry I with Lab) and CHE 1111 (General College Chemistry with Lab).

This position may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

A Master's degree from a fully accredited institution in Chemistry or a closely related field and at least 18 graduate hours in Chemistry. 30 credit hours of teaching experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree from a fully accredited institution in Chemistry and at least 18 graduate hours in Chemistry. Experience teaching at the college level. Experience teaching online. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using non-traditional learning environments. Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities and supporting individuals from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom.

Physical and Cognitive Demands:
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Pay

The pay for this position is $1,177.73 -$1,294.58 per credit hour without lab and with Vocational Lecture/Lab $1,660.54 -$1,826.60, commensurate with education and experience.

This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.
