Chief Advancement Officer

The Wisconsin School of Business is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven leader to serve as Chief Advancement Officer (CAO). This role leads alumni engagement and donor stewardship efforts that strengthen ties to the school, expand student and alumni opportunities, and support key initiatives. Working closely with the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, the CAO will help grow philanthropic support and advance the school’s mission and strategic priorities. Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Advises leadership on alumni relations objectives, strategies, and performance
  • Monitors alumni operational activities and ensures adherence to established objectives
  • Recommends changes to ensure goals are met and to foster relationships and promote alumni impact
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Serves as the chief alumni liaison to leadership and internal and external stakeholders at large events, promotes and advocates for institutional alumni relations goals and initiatives
  • Direct advancement strategic planning initiatives and serve as unit’s primary liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups, including the development team, fostering collaboration, alignment, and shared accountability for philanthropic success
  • Develops and oversees the budget
  • Advise dean on philanthropic strategy and engagement of board members/VIP stakeholders
  • Develops strategic planning initiatives and objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan

Compensation: Negotiable

Required Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in higher education
  • Seven years of experience overseeing engagement strategies or communications
  • Seven years of leadership experience overseeing a team and managing staff
  • Experience managing relationships with donors and external partners within higher education

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
