The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law is an educational, non-profit organization dedicated to the scholarly and practical study of all aspects of natural resources and energy law. It values collegiality and brings together lawyers, professionals, academics, and students to learn and network in a supportive environment where all participants are valued.

The Foundation is known for fostering professional relationships among its members and for high-quality, scholarly, and practical educational offerings, including (a) domestic and international programs on relevant legal developments and issues relating to natural resources and energy law, (b) publications such as the American Law of Mining, the Law of Federal Oil and Gas Leases, the Proceedings of the Annual Institutes, International Petroleum Law and Transactions, the Landman's Legal Handbook, Gower Federal Services, the Foundation Journal, the Mineral and Energy Law Newsletter, the Water Law Newsletter, and various books, model forms, institute materials, and other special materials, and (c) scholarships for qualified law students at Foundation constituent law schools who demonstrate interest in pursuing careers in natural resources, energy, and related legal fields.

The Foundation was created in 1955 by a group of lawyers from the U.S. Rocky Mountain region who recognized the need for a mineral law conference that addressed important issues arising in the public lands states. Over the last seven decades, the Foundation has become a global learning community of colleagues and friends, known worldwide for its expertise, objectivity, practicality, scholarship, and collegiality. The scope of programming has expanded dramatically over the years, beginning with the Foundation's focus on its core programming relating to oil and gas, mining, and public lands and adding other related areas of practice such as the energy transition, environmental protection, water law, and other areas relating to natural resources and energy. While the Foundation continues to offer its Annual Institute featuring expert speakers, it has supplemented its educational offerings with Special Institutes, Short Courses, international programs, and online webinars in addition to a variety of publications.

A JD, LLM, or another relevant degree, or at least 10 years of experience in the legal field or the natural resources or energy sector, is required for this role. The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. If you are excited about this role and feel that you can contribute to the Foundation, but your experience does not exactly align with every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and résumé. Cover letters should be responsive to the mission of The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law and the responsibilities and qualifications specified in the position prospectus.
