The Child Development Online Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in child development courses through an online learning environment. Specific Position Duties
- Teaches assigned courses in the curriculum.
- Teaches Web, Web-enhanced, and ITV classes as requested, using a variety of instructional technologies.
- Teaches Dual Credit classes at locations throughout the West Texas area.
- Assists with recruitment, advising, and retention activities, as well as participates in various departmental and campus-wide committees.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field.
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the College.
- Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
- Provides students with written expectations, including syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, and other course-related materials.
- Administers tests appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam that measures students overall understanding of course objectives.
- Through instruction and interaction with students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn.
- Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, Web, or distance learning, that encourages the free exchange of ideas while supporting academic honesty and objectivity.
- Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and other scheduled instructional activities.
- Delivers course material in a clear and understandable manner.
- Addresses student concerns, including comments, questions, and input, both in class and through posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other appropriate means.
- Demonstrates the ability to teach students from a wide spectrum of ages and from various cultural and social backgrounds, including high school students enrolled in Dual Credit classes.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrates an excellent work ethic and commitment to teaching excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Any Associates degree or higher AND demonstrated competencies (ex. Relevant technical training, certification, experience, etc.) in the teaching discipline OR
- A Bachelors degree or higher in the teaching discipline or a related field; OR
- any Masters degree or higher and a minimum of 18 completed graduate course hours in the teaching discipline or a related field.
