Distinguishing Features of the Class

This is routine manual work calling for the performance of simple cleaning duties. Work is performed under direct supervision of a Supervisor who assigns tasks and frequently inspects and evaluates the employee and their work when completed. Does related work, as required.

Typical Work Activities

• Sweeps and mops floors by hand or floor machine:
• Washes windows and polishes floors;
• Dusts woodwork, furniture and other articles;
• Cleans lavatories and replenishes supplies;
• Washes glassware and other dishware equipment;
• Vacuum carpets;
• Picks up and recycles trash;
• Launders resident drapes, hanging drapes and cubicle curtains.

Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities, and/or Personal Characteristics

Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; willingness to perform janitorial tasks; thoroughness; dependability.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside and may occasionally work outside performing assigned tasks. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary and Conditions of Employment

This is a Full Time, Genesee County civil service position at 40 hours per week and is compensated at a rate of $15.92 per hour. Hours worked are from 5:00am-1:30pm.
