Job Description
- Are you looking to join a fun, welcoming team in a permanent role?

- Do you consider yourself as someone who is aware of other people's needs and always willing to help?
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently on the hunt or a Client Service Adviser who is equal parts welcoming, organised, unflappable, and secretly a bit of a superhero. If you’re the type of person who can smile while fixing a printer jam, answer a phone call, send an email, and reassure a stressed student all at the same time — congratulations. You’re our kind of human. This is no ordinary admin gig. You’ll be right at the beating heart of Student Living — the person students, whānau, staff, visitors, and the occasional lost tourist come to when they need help.
You’ll be:
- The friendly face at the front desk.
- The calm voice on the phone.
- The person who who understands STARREZ.
- The event‑support ninja.
- The human glue helping keep our community connected.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver warm, professional customer service — even before coffee.
- Juggle enquiries like a circus pro (only safer and with better lighting).
- Manage admin, systems, records, and STARREZ like the organised legend you are.
- Help support events, activities, and Student Living initiatives.
- Solve problems with empathy, optimism, and a healthy sense of humour.
- Spot opportunities to improve things and feel genuinely delighted when they happen.
- Work across teams, halls, and services with good vibes and good communication.
- Help us nurture a welcoming, inclusive, student‑centred community.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
You’re someone people naturally gravitate to — not just because you know where the stationery cupboard is, but because you’re kind, approachable, and genuinely enjoy helping others.
You will be:
- Motivated and proactive (you don’t wait to be asked — you just know)
- Friendly, empathetic, and great at putting people at ease.
- Calm under pressure (or at least extremely convincing).
- Tech‑capable and quick to learn new systems.
- Good with boundaries, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Someone who values diversity, manaakitanga, and community.
You’re the sort of person who can turn a chaotic moment into an organised one — and make someone’s day better in the process.
Key requirements
- Experience in a customer‑facing role.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- A “can‑do, will‑do, happy‑to‑help‑with-that” attitude.
- Confidence dealing with tricky or sensitive situations.
- Solid computer literacy.
- Awareness of young people’s wellbeing needs.
Bonus points (but not essential):
- Experience in tertiary, accommodation, or large organisations.
- Familiarity with STARREZ or similar systems.
- Ability to remember 12 people's names on day one — but no pressure.
