Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics at WashU Medicine is seeking a manager to oversee ambulatory operations and both clinical and non-clinical staff for one of its divisions.
This pivotal role will oversee clinical and administrative staff while supporting patient care initiatives in collaboration with ambulatory clinic personnel and with guidance from the Clinical Director. This role supports patient care and procedures performed at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and other clinic locations. This position is responsible for identifying and implementing best business practices, serving as the prime communicator of division level information, and is the point of contact for the Clinical Director.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain high levels of employee and patient satisfaction. Provides direction and assistance in resolving issues and complaints by physicians, patients, staff, and referring physician offices. Coordinates patient services, ensuring safe, quality care is provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Works with the Division Chief, ambulatory leadership, and peers on daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual planning to optimize the division and innovate solutions.
- Reviews provider and staff productivity and metrics. Also monitors supplies and equipment, ordering/repairing as required to ensure the quality of care and operational standards are maintained, in a cost-effective way.
- Manages clinical, administrative, and medical assistant support staff. Duties include hiring, training, managing, mentoring, evaluating and terminating, as appropriate and in alignment with central administration partners.
- Support clinical operations within the division, in alignment with the division to follow University and Department of Pediatrics standards. Implements and maintains office procedure manuals. Responsible for the collection and maintenance of records pertaining to the division’s CQI activities and patient satisfaction data.
- Works closely with leadership to enforce policies/procedures and quality control indicators through quality assurance and risk management programs. Maintains compliance with existing policies and procedures.

Decision Making and Impact:
Responsible for all aspects of clinical operations for the division in tandem with the Division Chief and with reporting responsibility to the Clinical Director.
Financial and Operational Impact:
Responsible for all financial expenditures within the division to support good financial stewardship for the division and to support resource optimization.

- External: Patients, families, outside collaborative organizations.
- Supervision: Clinical and administrative support staff.
- Reports To: Clinical Director.
Working Conditions:

Normal clinic and administrative office setting with some pressure caused by work deadlines.
Position will be performed in person.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expert knowledge of Epic is highly desired.
- Demonstrated people management capabilities combined with deep knowledge of clinical workflows and supporting processes.
- Experience with patient safety and quality initiatives, data driven decision making, and effective communication skills.
- Exceptional professional judgement along with experience with daily, clinical ambulatory operations including, but not limited to, overseeing staff and physician schedules, and leveraging clinical metrics to drive improvements while tracking overall progress for the division.
- Demonstrated success managing varying levels of staff in an academic healthcare setting.

Salary Range
$68,100.00 - $105,500.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
