Job Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
Primary areas of responsibility include active participation in predoctoral teaching and patient care at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, Sacramento Campus.

EXEMPT Full-time; 4 days per week, 52 weeks per year. Teacher-clinician track position.
Primary areas of responsibility include active participation in predoctoral teaching and patient care components of the program.
- Predoctoral program
- Didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical teaching to dental students (lecture, block rotation, elective course)
- Supervise students providing clinical care of patients in the Sacramento clinic.
- Provide academic advisement and guidance to dental students.
- Participate in Personalized Instructional Programs and student research projects.
- Patient care
- Provide emergency care to patients as needed
- Provide elective oral and maxillofacial surgery services that are beyond the scope of the predoctoral student program (eg. dental implants, wisdom teeth, sedation) to patients of the clinic.
- Provide elective and emergency oral and maxillofacial surgery services in Pacific Sacramento Ambulatory Surgery Center.
- Option to participate in faculty practice plan.
- Service to the dental school and professional community through participation in committees, interprofessional programs, school-wide activities, and local & regional professional organizations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Curriculum management as it relates to oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Current, evidence-based clinical practice
- Promote the dental school mission, vision, and core values
- Lead and function in an active change environment
- Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, residents, students in a variety of ways including: email, texts, one-on-one conversations, small meetings, large meetings, lectures, etc.
- Maintain professional composure and demeanor at all times
- Listen, follow, collaborate, negotiate, compromise, direct, delegate, refer, and think critically
- Minimum of 3 years of practice experience
- DDS/DMD from an ADA-accredited school of dentistry or equivalent.
- Completion of an advanced education program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
- Current advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) certification.
- Licensed or licensure eligible in California.
Working Conditions:
- Position requires coordination of a variety of responsible duties in stressful non-clinical and clinical situations
- Significant contact with staff/co-workers, students, residents, patients and their families, other employers, physicians, and their office staff, local hospital team members, and other members of the health care community
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Competency based education and assessment methodology
- Modern pedagogical concepts and application in health professions education
- Trends in oral health and oral health education
- Dental accreditation standards and processes
- Inspire excellence and promote innovation
- Previous experience in an academic setting preferred.
- Previous experience in hospital and/or ambulatory surgery center is preferred.
- Board certification is highly desired.

Physical Requirements:

- Work performed is primarily general office/administrative/direct patient care with frequent use of computer keyboard and phone.
- Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking.
- Occasional lifting of up to 15lbs should be anticipated.
