About the College/Unit/Department
As the 4th largest public college of education in the country and the 3rd largest college at UGA, the Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFE COE) improves the lives of residents of Georgia and beyond through our instruction, research, and service. The MFE COE is a comprehensive college with disciplines focused on teacher preparation, counseling and human development, communication sciences, human movement sciences, career development, student affairs, and educational administration and policy. We place significant emphasis on graduate education with approximately 40% of our students at the graduate level, making us the second largest college at UGA with respect to graduate education.
The Special Education (EDSE) program prepares students at the undergraduate and graduate levels across a range of degree programs, including general curriculum, adapted curriculum, birth through kindergarten, and applied behavior analysis. The program also supports students across the College through coursework focused on foundational knowledge of special education and the effective inclusion of students with disabilities in educational settings. Position Summary:
The Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education at the University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in Special Education, beginning in August 2027.
The Special Education (EDSE) program prepares students at the undergraduate and graduate levels across a range of degree programs, including general curriculum, adapted curriculum, birth through kindergarten, and applied behavior analysis. The program also supports students across the College through coursework focused on foundational knowledge of special education and the effective inclusion of students with disabilities in educational settings.
This position requires teaching the equivalent of four courses per semester in the program or college and delivering both face-to-face and online instruction. The candidate’s teaching assignment will include the preparation of both special education and non-special education teachers, including coursework related to foundational knowledge of special education and inclusive practices, as well as supervision of special education students in field-based experiences. The area of specialization is otherwise open.
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
The appointment will be for the 2027-28 academic year, beginning August 1, 2027. This position is contingent upon the availability of funding.
Additional Requirements:
At least three years of teaching experience in P-12 schools in special education as a fully certified teacher.

- Evidence of promise of teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses and mentoring students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialization in mathematics instruction for students with disabilities
- Prior role supervising preservice teachers in field-based placements
- Current knowledge of evidence-based practices and professional standards for teacher preparation, including those established by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
