Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.
Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $100,000.00 Annually
Maximum: $110,000.00 Annually
Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, provide direct patient care at affiliated external clinical sites and/or in the Optometry Service at the WesternU Health Eye Care Institute (ECI) and to teach in the clinical education programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the assigned classification, with or without reasonable accommodation(s), using some other combination of skills and abilities. Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are as follows:
- Knowledge of theoretical and clinical optometry.
- Knowledge of special emphasis within optometric scope of practice and its application to clinical optometry.
- Able to provide clinical care to patients and clinical education to students and residents.
- Able to interact and communicate in an effective manner with students, staff, faculty, administration, and outside constituents, be culturally sensitive and maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Doctor of Optometry degree required.
- License to practice in California.
Experience:
- One to three years' experience in an optometric clinical practice or completion of an accredited residency program.
- Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that satifies the requirements of the WesternU Vehicle Use Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Teaching:
- Teach in clinical education programs
Patient Care:
- Provide patient care, either directly or with student interns, at the Eye Care Institute in the WesternU Health Patient Care Center.
- Provide patient care, either directly or with student interns, at affiliated external clinical sites as assigned. Drives personal vehicle to these sites as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
