Job Summary

University Health Services is seeking a dedicated Clinical Dietitian to join our collaborative medical services team. This position plays a vital role in promoting student wellness by providing expert nutritional care tailored to the unique needs of a diverse campus community.

This 80–100% FTE direct patient care position serves UW–Madison students through comprehensive nutrition services, including screening, assessment, counseling, and referrals. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide individualized nutrition counseling to a diverse student population, with a focus on adolescents and young adults
  • Deliver specialized care for students with eating disorders, collaborating closely with medical and mental health providers
  • Apply evidence-based practices and maintain ongoing professional competency in the field of nutrition and dietetics
  • Support students in making healthy lifestyle choices and maintaining overall wellness

Campus Engagement & Collaboration

  • Participate in campus-wide health initiatives and wellness programming
  • Collaborate with UHS medical, mental health, and prevention staff to provide integrated care
  • Potentially provide services onsite at the Bakke Recreation and Wellbeing Center

Additional Responsibilities May Include

  • Teaching and precepting health sciences learners
  • Facilitating group classes and outreach activities
  • Supporting RecWell with nutrition education programming, including delivering workshops at the Wolf Teaching Kitchen
  • Creating educational materials and guest lecturing on nutrition-related topics
  • Participating in student interviews and media engagements to promote health and wellness

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Participates in or conducts dietary research as needed to advance practices and principles
  • Develops and schedules operational work plans and may provide expertise and training and guidance to staff, the community, peers, and/or students
  • Evaluates nutritional needs and treatment readiness and develops, coordinates, and disseminates treatment plans for patients and their families in collaboration with medical professionals and other partners
  • Completes reports related to nutritional treatment, patient planning, and/or medical care according to established policies and procedures
  • Teaches patients and support systems about proper nutrition and helps develop strategies to cope with nutritional needs and problems
  • Recommends referrals, schedules logistics, and secures resources for patients to receive medical care or various program assistance

UHS Medical Services provides high quality medical services to UW-Madison students with specialties in primary care, gynecology, sexual health, travel medicine, allergy and immunization, and physical therapy. Our clinicians also provide a wide range of preventative care in support of the UHS overarching mission of promoting students' academic and personal success through an integrated model of medical, mental health, and prevention activities and services.

Compensation

The minimum starting salary for this position is $63,000 with final offer based on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and sick leave; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. For more information, refer to the campus benefits webpage. This position is eligible for a hiring bonus in the amount of $3,000.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Registered Dietitian License for the State of Wisconsin at time of start date
  • Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams including medical and mental health professionals while also being able to work independently
  • Strong interest in providing nutrition counseling to college students experiencing disordered eating and eating disorders

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years or more of clinically supervised experience working with patients with a variety of eating disorders including, but not limited to, restrictive eating, bulimia, binge eating disorder
  • 2 years or more experience working with a young adult/college population

Education

Bachelor's degree in Science or related field, required. Master's degree in Science or related field, preferred.
