JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Instructor, Simulation will assist in facilitating simulation experiences for first-semester nursing students (N1 level) during their long-term care semester. This part-time position plays a key role in supporting a dynamic and realistic learning environment where students can practice clinical decision-making, teamwork, and communication skills in a safe, simulated setting.
This position will primarily involve working every Monday and Tuesday throughout the semester during weeks when N1 simulations are scheduled. Outside of those weeks, hours are flexible throughout the semester and during the summer. Additional days and hours may be available.
We are especially interested in candidates with long-term care experience, as this aligns with the focus of the N1 curriculum. Having a content expert in this area is a tremendous asset when designing and facilitating realistic simulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate and support nursing simulation sessions for N1 students, including setup, operation, and debriefing.
- Prepare simulation equipment, manikins, and lab spaces prior to sessions and ensure proper cleanup afterward.
- Operate and troubleshoot simulation technology.
- Collaborate with faculty and simulation staff to deliver effective, evidence-based learning experiences.
- Assist in guiding students through simulation scenarios, reinforcing critical thinking and clinical reasoning.
- Participate in maintaining simulation supplies, equipment, and inventory.
- Support ongoing quality improvement of simulation activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the Simulation Lab Coordinator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required (preferably in nursing); will consider a bachelor's in a related or applicable field.
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn new simulation and audiovisual technologies.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
- Consistent availability on Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field.
- Previous experience in nursing education, simulation facilitation, or clinical instruction.
- Familiarity with simulation software and high-fidelity manikins.
- Background in long-term care nursing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
- All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan.
