The Department of Surgery is seeking a Clinical Nurse in Breast Surgery is a key member of the multidisciplinary breast care team, providing direct clinical support to breast surgeons and high touch guidance to patients navigating breast surgery evaluation, treatment, and recovery. This role blends clinical expertise, patient education, and care coordination to ensure a seamless, compassionate experience throughout the surgical continuum.
The Clinical Nurse works in a fast-paced hospital-based clinic environment, supporting surgical clinics, coordinating diagnostic and treatment plans, and serving as a consistent point of contact for patients and families.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinical Support to Surgeons.
- Support breast surgeons during outpatient clinics, preparing clinical documentation.
- Facilitate test ordering (imaging, labs, pathology) and ensure results are available for surgeon review.
- Care coordination to include coordinating with radiology, pathology, oncology, and other departments to streamline care plans.
- Triage patient calls and clinical concerns, escalating urgent issues appropriately per workflow.
- Patient Education & Counseling.
- Provide comprehensive preoperative education including expectations for procedures, and post-operative care.
- Teach wound care, drain management, medication regimens, and potential complication signs.
- Empower patients with evidence-based resources and supportive materials tailored to health literacy needs.
- Patient Navigation & Care Coordination.
- Serve as a consistent, accessible point of contact for patients throughout the surgical journey.
- Coordinate appointments, imaging, preop testing, and follow up care to minimize delays.
- Collaborate with oncology navigators, radiology staff, plastic surgery, genetics, and social work as needed to support individualized patient pathways.
- Support transitions of care from surgical consultation to operative intervention to survivorship or oncology care.
- Identify barriers to care (financial, psychosocial, logistical) and connect patients with appropriate resources.
Minimum Qualifications
- Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland nor state where practicing.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually ($90,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
