The Centre for Research in Infection and Sexual Health, directed by Professor Richard Gilson, has around 30 staff, made up of clinicians, research nurses, research assistants, administrative, data and trial management staff.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join the team and undertake participant recruitment and data collection, collation and submission of participant data and the processing and preparation of clinical samples.

About the role

This post would be ideally suited for an individual with some experience of working in a healthcare setting and/or experience of clinical research. The postholder will be interested to work with research participants and will be enthusiastic about clinical research in infectious diseases.

The postholder will work with the clinical research team in the Centre, comprised of principal investigators, study coordinators, research nurses and clinical fellows, and with NHS partners. They will undertake participant recruitment and data collection, collation and submission of participant data and the processing and preparation of clinical samples. They will contribute to data cleaning, analysis, and reporting. As part of their role, and subject to appropriate training, they will undertake clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, FibroScan liver tests, point-of-care tests for STIs and psychological assessments contributing both to the research work and provision of individual patient care.

About you

The postholder should be educated to degree level and should have previous experience of working in a healthcare setting or conducting health-related research. They should have knowledge of and/or experience of work in HIV, infection, or/and sexual health and an appreciation of the importance of accuracy in data collection, management, and analysis.
