The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry. The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.

We are seeking a clinically qualified trainee psychiatrist (post-Foundation level) to join research programmes in first-episode psychosis.

This is a full-time position; however, applications for part-time working will be considered. Some flexibility in working hours and pattern of work is possible by agreement.

About the Role

The post is funded for 2 years and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.

You will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians with international expertise in psychopathology, cognition, neuroimaging, experimental medicine, informatics, and clinical trials applied to the early phase of psychosis. You will have the opportunity to contribute to existing research studies and, where appropriate, develop your own academic interests with mentorship from senior clinical academics.

You will contribute to the structured clinical assessment of people presenting with a first episode of psychosis, including clinical interview, cognitive assessment, neuroimaging, and blood-based biomarker pathways. You will also support the feasibility evaluation of novel or enhanced treatment and assessment approaches in early psychosis.

About You

You will be qualified to MBBS or equivalent with full General Medical Council Registration and a Licence to Practice. You will have completed Foundation Training (or equivalent) and a demonstrable interest in psychiatric research. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings are essential.

Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and previous experience in research would be desirable.
