Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Clinical Simulation Instructor is to support the professional role development and clinical education of students, primarily within the School of Nursing. This role focuses on facilitating student learning in the Skills Labs and Simulation Center. The Clinical Simulation Instructor plays a key role in developing students' psychomotor skills, applying standards of practice, and fostering critical thinking through the implementation of high-quality simulation-based learning experiences.
Responsibilities
Teaching/Instruction - 40%
- Evaluate nursing students during skills practice sessions, skills check-offs, and/or remediation, particularly when clinical expertise is required.
- Collaborate with faculty on simulation design and implementation to ensure alignment with Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice.
- Assist faculty in the creation, testing, and execution of simulation scenarios.
- Instruct students on the use of electronic medical record (EMR) systems for documentation during simulation activities.
- Maintain inventory of simulation supplies and equipment in accordance with accreditation standards.
- Participate in the orientation of faculty, staff, and students prior to simulation activities.
- Maintain accurate records of lab and simulation center utilization.
- Coordinate and manage student access and scheduling for after-hours lab use.
- Supervise student mentors involved in simulation and skills lab activities.
- Ensure safe handling of hazardous materials and maintain a clean, organized, and safe simulation environment.
Research and Professional Development - 40%
- Participation in professional development and continuing education activities necessary to maintain current knowledge of simulation best practices and accreditation standards.
- Collaboration with the STRC team and faculty on research initiatives, including the development and submission of scholarly articles.
- Providing guidance and support for educational research projects involving simulation.
- Active membership and engagement in professional organizations related to simulation, nursing, and nursing education.
- Engagement in additional activities that support research and professional growth as appropriate.
Service to the institution and profession - 15%
- Serving on Simulation and STRC committees.
- Providing continuing education, instruction, or program development related to simulation for the department, school, college, or university.
- Participating in professional organizations through committee work, leadership roles, task forces, or other forms of engagement.
- Assisting Simulation Center staff with preparation and maintenance of accreditation documentation and requirements across various disciplines.
Other - 5%
- Collaborative presentation at professional meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
A Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org)
Required Experience
Unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the United States with the ability to obtain licensure in the state of Georgia upon appointment.
Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
A Master's of Science in Nursing with an Education/Simulation concentration or current enrollment.
Preferred Experience
- Six months or more of experience in Simulation or skills performance evaluation preferred, but will train the right candidate
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator certified or certification eligible
- Experience with organization and preparation of simulation materials
- Ability to understand and utilize advanced technical SIM Center equipment and communicate that knowledge to others as appropriate.
- knowledge of Simulation Accreditation standards as outlined by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare
