Job Summary

Collaborative pianist needed to provide coaching and accompaniment to the voice and opera areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and ensemble coaching for voice and opera students in preparation for lessons, juries, recitals, and other performances.
  • Provide accompaniment for opera rehearsals and performances.
  • Practice to prepare all repertoire for assigned accompanying and coaching.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

  • Hiring Rate: The hiring rate for this position is $2,313 (Step 1) per month.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range (Part-Time, 0.50 FTE): $2,313 (step 1) - $3,369 (step 20) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of classical vocal repertoire, including art song and opera, as well as a broad understanding of choral and/or operatic literature. They should also be familiar with a wide range of vocal and instrumental solo works and demonstrate effective vocal or opera coaching and rehearsal techniques. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with the foreign languages commonly used in vocal literature.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Demonstrated successful experience as a collaborative pianist in academic, professional, or comparable performance settings required.
  • Earned Master's or Doctoral Degree in Collaborative Piano Performance, Piano Performance, or closely related field, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
