Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum seeks a part-time, temporary Museum Educator to lead group tours and provide interactive experiences primarily for K-12 groups, but may occasionally lead experiences for college and adult audiences. The Museum Educator will work with Museum Education staff to learn about the Museum's collections and how to facilitate the Museum's K-12 gallery engagement tour plans, which are grounded in close looking, critical thinking, and inquiry-based methodologies. Additionally, the Museum Educator may assist with family and community programs as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tours for groups of the Museum's collections and special exhibitions galleries. (2-12 hours per week Tuesday – Friday between 10:00-1:30)
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other Museum Educators and Docents to customize tour plans to meet the needs of each group and to ensure that groups move through the galleries in a safe and organized way. (1 hour per week)
  • Spend time learning about the Museum's collections as well as tour curriculum and pedagogies. (8 hours of initial training, followed by 2-4 hours weekly review and preparation)

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

The work location for this position is at Princeton University, in-person and on campus.

  • Bachelor's degree in art education, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in museum education or classroom teaching. Experience in inquiry-based teaching methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience working with audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Requirements

The ability to give a tour in other languages in addition to English.
