Collections and Instruction Librarian
The Harris Learning Library of Nipissing University and Canadore College seeks a user-centred, innovative, and team-oriented Collections and Instruction Librarian.
Serving Nipissing University and Canadore College, the Harris Learning Library supports and advances teaching, learning and research for students, staff and faculty of both institutions. The Learning Library is a member of CRKN, OCUL, CLO, and OCLS; it participates in the shared OCUL Collaborative Futures platform. Serving a combined student population of approximately 7,000, the Learning Library is a busy, vibrant, and welcoming setting for students; this past year, there were approximately 140,000 visits. The library’s holdings comprise of thousands of electronic resources and monographs, along with a wide variety of kits supporting programs and research of both institutions. Our Information Literacy Instruction program is very strong; this past year, the Library Instruction team delivered approximately 250 sessions for just over 8,300 students. In addition to support for academic activities, the friendly staff of the Learning Library conduct various user engagement activities: weekly visits by St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dogs, a collection of puzzles and games for student wellness, colourful displays promoting library resources, and recreational reading materials.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Master of Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited program, combined with one to two years of directly related experience in an academic library,
- Experience providing reference service, library instruction sessions, and collection development,
- Excellent communication skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement a course of action or make recommendations within scope of position, and a
- Demonstrated use of good judgment with the ability to make decisions within scope of the position.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Library Services, and in consultations with the Manager Access Services, Librarians, and Library staff, the successful candidate will carry out responsibilities in support of research, teaching and learning for students, staff, and faculty of Nipissing University and Canadore College. Responsibilities will include working collaboratively with the Library Instruction team, planning and delivering Information Literacy Instruction sessions for faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other research staff, and subject liaising activities including collection and development.
Working in consultation with librarians and Library staff, other duties include reviewing and evaluating services, resources, tools and software, and implementing initiatives related to library services and resources.
Our campus is located at 100 College Dr, North Bay, ON P1B 8L7. Based on the Collective Agreement, the annual salary for this role will range from $67,380 to $90,132, depending on level of experience, plus employee benefits and pension plan as per the collective agreement. The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Collective Agreement. The individual in this role will be required to work full-time from the main campus location listed above. The language of work for this position is English.
