Job Description
The Department of English at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Collegiate Assistant Professor of Literary Studies and Fiction Writing. We seek a colleague with the potential for excellence in teaching across literature and creative writing courses as well as a strong publication record (or potential for such) in literary studies or creative writing. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the department's programs in literature and creative writing; courses in the creative writing MFA program may be assigned depending on the candidate's qualifications and departmental need. The standard teaching load is 3/3.

Required Qualifications
- PhD/ MFA in English or Creative Writing by time of appointment, expected to be August 10, 2026
- Evidence of teaching excellence in literature, creative writing, or both.
Preferred Qualifications
- Record of publication in literary studies or creative writing
- Teaching experience in fiction writing, comics and graphic novels, British literature after 1800, or contemporary fiction and poetry.
- As the Department of English publishes an undergraduate research journal, Philologia, and supports the minnesota review, candidates with experience in digital publishing (particularly in collaboration with students) are especially welcome.
