Commodity Markets Compliance Analyst

Transpower owns and operates the national grid, connecting communities from Kaikohe to Bluff. Our purpose is Tu mai Aotearoa – We’re for New Zealand, and through emsTradepoint we support markets that enable innovation, resilience, and a low‑emissions future.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Transpower, emsTradepoint plays a critical role in market integrity, price discovery, and confidence for participants navigating decarbonisation and change.

emsTradepoint operates New Zealand’s physical carbon and gas markets — providing transparent, trusted trading that supports the country’s energy transition and domestic gas security.

About the team

emsTradepoint Limited sits within Transpower’s Innovation function and owns and operates a physical commodity exchange focused on carbon and natural gas.

The team supports market participants by facilitating trading on a proprietary platform, developing market products, delivering market insights, and ensuring robust AML/CFT compliance. We work closely with customers, regulators, and internal stakeholders to ensure market integrity, transparency, and ongoing development.

The opportunity

This is a great opportunity to join us in our Wellington office, working in a complex and evolving market environment. In this role, you will enable and facilitate Gas and Carbon markets that play a critical role in New Zealand’s energy transition, supporting the country to manage tightening supply of domestic gas.

You’ll join a small, collaborative and capable team contributing across market operations, analysis, customer engagement, and compliance. This role combines established day‑to‑day responsibilities with exposure to new market developments, stakeholder interactions, and regulatory change, allowing you to build a deep understanding of commodity markets while developing strong analytical and regulatory capability.

Taking on a key role in the team, you’ll support the effective operation and ongoing development of emsTradepoint’s markets, balancing compliance obligations with a high‑quality customer experience.

In this role, you will:

Support day‑to‑day operation of the carbon and gas markets, including customer support

Undertake regular market operations and monitoring activities

Prepare market commentary, insights and reports for customers and stakeholders

Support preparation of market updates and presentations for industry forums

Maintain compliance with market rules and operating codes

Support AML/CFT activities including customer due diligence, monitoring, and reporting

Assist with audits, reviews, and regulatory reporting requirements

Contribute to market development initiatives and product enhancements

To be considered, your CV and covering letter will demonstrate:

Strong numerical skills and experience working with data and spreadsheets

Experience in a market analyst, operations, compliance, or similar role

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Confidence engaging with customers and stakeholders

Ability to manage competing priorities and respond calmly to issues

Experience with tools such as SharePoint, Power BI or Power Automate

A tertiary qualification in maths, science, engineering, commerce, or equivalent experience

While not essential, experience or exposure to energy, commodities, carbon markets, or AML/CFT compliance, or working in a regulated environment, would be advantageous.
