Communications and Events Professional (Open Rank: Intermediate - Senior)

Job Summary:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics is seeking a Communications and Events Professional to help shape how our research, faculty achievements, and academic initiatives are shared with internal and external audiences. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of science, storytelling, and community engagement within a dynamic academic medical environment. The successful candidate will elevate the department's digital presence, strengthen faculty and trainee engagement, and coordinate events that bring together leading researchers, students, and collaborators.

Day-to-day, this position will manage website and social media content, develop newsletters and feature stories highlighting groundbreaking research, and lead planning and execution of seminars, symposiums, faculty meetings, and community events. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys both creative communications work and operational event management, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced academic setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage website content, social media platforms, and departmental newsletters to enhance visibility and engagement.
  • Plan and execute academic and community events, including seminars, symposiums, recruitment events, and faculty meetings.
  • Create compelling written and visual content that highlights research achievements, faculty accomplishments, and departmental initiatives.
  • Track and analyze digital engagement metrics and recommend data-driven improvements.
  • Coordinate logistics, budgets, vendor relationships, and compliance requirements for on- and off-campus events.
  • Ensure alignment with University branding standards and serve as liaison with campus communications teams.
  • Maintain departmental communications calendars, distribution lists, and digital asset libraries.

Work Location:

This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Why Join Us:

Our department conducts research across a wide biological scale for fundamental scientific understanding with applications to many disease contexts. The overarching goal is to reach a level of molecular insight that helps develop therapeutic approaches to disease.

As biochemists and molecular geneticists, we are amid an unprecedented time of discovery - our conception of the molecular biology of cells is going from the equivalent of grainy black-and-white to high-resolution technicolor. From deciphering the choreography of transcription complexes, chromosomes, and RNA molecules within cells to developing novel approaches to 3D molecular structure determination to understanding how viruses hijack a cell's machinery and alter its metabolome, the researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BMG) are at the forefronts of their fields both conceptually and technologically.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Professional:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
