AUT’s School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences is seeking a Computer and Mathematical Sciences Technician to join our dedicated team. We are looking for a hard-working and adaptable individual who can support a range of tasks related to Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, with a particular emphasis on providing excellent customer service. This requires someone capable of working flexibly across multiple areas as needed.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic tertiary environment, providing essential technical support to help staff and students reach their learning and research goals. Nga haepapa matua | Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced support for Computer hardware, software, and system integration issues.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and support embedded platforms (ESP32, Raspberry Pi, Arduino) and IoT networks.
- Assist in software and firmware development for robotics, IoT using C, C++, and Python.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement security best practices across computing infrastructures.
- Maintain detailed records of system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and optimizations.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and contribute to advancements in IoT, and embedded systems.
- Enforce Health & Safety protocols in laboratory environments.

- A tertiary qualification (certificate, diploma, or degree) or relevant experience working in an educational environment.
- Excellent customer service focus, with the ability to communicate clearly and patiently with staff and students.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically when tackling complex technical issues.
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle a wide variety of tasks in a fast-paced educational environment.
- Ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and be a good team player.
- Self-management skills (including behaviour, organisation and time management).
