Computer Scientist (Breast Cancer Now Unit)

About Us

The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London seeks to appoint a computer scientist (Breast Cancer Now Unit) in the Comprehensive Cancer Centre, which is the academic arm of one of the leading cancer centres in Europe bringing together world-class clinical services delivered by our NHS partners, with research and education for the benefit of cancer patients in South East London and beyond.

This post forms a key part of the Breast Cancer Now–funded programme, a major initiative uniting scientists and clinicians at King’s and the Institute of Cancer Research to develop novel immune therapeutic strategies for hard-to-treat triple negative breast cancers (TNBC).

Based in the Cancer Bioinformatics Group (Professor Anita Grigoriadis), the postholder will contribute to the development of scalable analytical tools and apply these to rich spatial and molecular datasets generated across the programme. Working closely with the programme lead (Professor Sheeba Irshad) and bioinformatics collaborators, the postholder will support hypothesis-led analyses in collaboration with other teams, providing key insights into tumour-immune interactions and treatment response in TNBC.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced computer scientist to lead the analysis and interpretation of multimodal imaging, including spatial transcriptomics, single cell and large-scale omics data, digital pathology, using cutting-edge AI and machine learning approaches. You will play a critical role in developing sophisticated computational pipelines, integrating complex multi-omics datasets, and collaborating with cross-functional teams between the Breast Cancer Now Unit at King’s College London and the Breast Cancer Now Centre at The Institute for Cancer Research to drive discoveries in immune-oncology of pre- and post-neoadjuvant treated triple negative breast cancer biology.

This is a full time and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 3 years from start date.

  1. PhD (or near completion) in bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning, or a related field
  2. Significant experience in the analysis of cell- or imaging-based datasets, such as spatial transcriptomics, single-cell RNA-seq, or multiplex proteomics
  3. AI & Machine Learning Methodology Development for multimodal data
  4. Knowledge of multimodal data integration, including integration of cell-based data with imaging-based data.
  5. Experience with data science tools, analytics and programming languages (e.g. R, python) and HPC
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across clinicians, wet-lab, and computational teams

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience supporting or collaborating on hypothesis-driven research projects
