Conjoint Clinical Academic in Restorative Dentistry

- Full-time, Fixed-term position for up to 5 years
- Base salary will be in the range $140,292.65 - $185,573.62 (Academic Level C or D) + 17% Superannuation
- Jointly based at UQ’s Herston Campus
About This Opportunity
This conjoint role between Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS) and The University of Queensland’s School of Dentistry offers an exciting opportunity for a driven Clinical Academic to lead Restorative Dentistry at the Oral Health Alliance. You’ll oversee clinical supervision of UQ dental students, deliver high-quality patient care, and continue to build your profile in clinical teaching, research, and service. There is also scope to contribute to the supervision of students in advanced or specialty training programs.
This position is offered at Academic Level C or D, commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
Key responsibilities for Level C will include:
- Teaching: Provide high-quality clinical teaching and course coordination while contributing to curriculum development, innovation and student support.
- Research: Maintain an active clinical research profile through quality publications, securing funding and contributing to research translation and impact.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Lead the supervision and development of HDR and advanced training students while building researcher capability and effectively managing staff.
- Clinical Responsibilities (MNH): Lead restorative dentistry services, deliver high-quality patient care, oversee student supervision, and drive team performance, quality and safety within the Oral Health Alliance.
- Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate UQ values through leadership, collaboration and service, contributing to internal governance and strengthening external partnerships.
Key responsibilities for Level D will include:
- Teaching: Provide sustained leadership in high-quality clinical teaching, curriculum and program development, and innovative educational practice that enhances student learning and overall teaching excellence.
- Research: Maintain an outstanding research profile through high-impact publications, successful research funding leadership, translation and commercialisation of research, and recognised contributions to discipline service and clinical research.
- Clinical Responsibilities (MNH): Lead restorative dentistry services at the Oral Health Alliance, ensuring high-quality patient care, effective student supervision, multidisciplinary team leadership, and strong clinical governance and safety standards.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Provide leadership in supervising HDR and early-career researchers, fostering research capability, managing staff performance, and ensuring a positive, well-supported and professionally governed research environment.
- Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate and model UQ values through strong governance, leadership, collaboration and service, while sustaining meaningful internal contributions and strategic external partnerships with industry, government and the community.

About You
For Level C
- Advanced professional qualification or HDR in the discipline.
- Strong profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research.
- Extensive industry experience with demonstrated innovation in clinical practice.
- Record of peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and contributions to external research funding.
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Proven experience in course coordination, curriculum development, and program innovation.
- Experience supervising students in advanced or specialty training.
- Established service and leadership contributions, including building professional partnerships and consultancies.
For Level D
- Advanced professional qualification or Higher Degree by Research in the discipline.
- Nationally recognised achievements and impact in clinical teaching and/or clinical research.
- Extensive industry expertise with evidence of leading innovative clinical techniques.
- Strong international publication record, conference contributions, and leadership in securing and managing external research funding.
- Demonstrated senior leadership in high-quality clinical teaching across all levels.
- Proven track record in course coordination and driving program and curriculum innovation.
- Extensive experience as principal supervisor for advanced or specialty training students.
- Strong internal service record and leadership in external professional activities, including national and international advisory roles.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, education check, AHPRA registration, and mandatory immunisations.
