About the role:

Join our Faculty of Science and Technology as the Conservation Ecology & Genomics Laboratory Manager and play a pivotal role in advancing wildlife genetics research. Reporting to the Capability Lead in Ecology & Genomics, this position is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of our state-of-the-art conservation laboratory. The laboratory manager will ensure users are working in a safe environment, ensuring workplace health and safety standards are maintained and that Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to under ISO/IEC 17025 and PC2 standards. The Laboratory manager will also oversee maintenance and calibration of equipment, and support researchers in their laboratory needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain documentation to meet WH&S, OGTR (PC2), and biosafety standards.
  • Provide high-level technical advice to researchers and students
  • Conduct safety inspections and manage chemical storage databases.
  • Oversee all equipment and asset management
  • Manage equipment maintenance & procurement.
  • Conduct and record laboratory inductions and training.
  • Train staff and students in equipment use.
  • Work collaboratively with various stakeholders
  • Follow university procedures and laboratory SOPs

About you:

You are a proactive and detail-oriented professional with:

  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory management, preferably in ecology or genomics.
  • Strong understanding of WH&S, biosafety, and OGTR compliance.
  • Understanding of molecular workflows and associated equipment to undertake qPCR analyses, HTS sequencing, Genome assembly
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to train and support diverse stakeholders in a research environment.
