CONTINUING EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR - CONSTRUCTION
KENNENDY-KING COLLEGE
Kennedy-King College is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate
Continuing Education Construction Instructor to prepare and deliver
industry-relevant instruction in construction estimating,
scheduling, project management, and project controls. The
instructor will provide engaging classroom and hands-on learning
experiences that equip adult learners with the practical skills
necessary to pursue careers and advancement opportunities within
the construction industry.
The successful candidate will leverage substantial construction
industry experience to connect classroom instruction to real-world
applications while fostering student success, workforce readiness,
and career development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver instruction in construction estimating,
scheduling, project management, and related construction
topics.
Develop lesson plans, classroom activities, assignments, and
assessments that align with industry standards and workforce
needs.
Facilitate engaging learning experiences for adult learners
using lectures, demonstrations, case studies, and hands-on
exercises.
Teach students how to develop construction cost estimates,
budgets, bid proposals, and project schedules.
Provide instruction on Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling
and project management best practices.
Utilize construction management software and instructional
technology to support student learning.
Assess student performance and provide timely feedback and
academic support.
Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and course
records.
Support student retention, completion, and employment
outcomes.
Collaborate with Continuing Education staff, Academic Affairs,
Student Services, Career Services, and industry
partners.
Assist with curriculum development, updates, and continuous
improvement initiatives.
Stay current on emerging practices, technologies, and trends
within the construction industry.
Participate in recruitment, outreach, and workforce development
activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Engineering
Technology, or a related field; or an associate degree combined
with significant industry experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in
construction estimating, scheduling, project management, project
controls, or a related construction field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera
P6.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal
communication skills.
- Ability to effectively instruct, coach, and mentor adult
learners.
- Ability to relate industry experience to practical classroom
instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification.
- Certified Cost Professional (CCP) certification.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
- Primavera P6 Certification.
- Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce
development experience.
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, infrastructure,
public-sector, or large-scale construction projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Construction cost estimating and bidding processes.
- Construction scheduling and Critical Path Method
(CPM).
- Construction project management principles and
methodologies.
- Budget development, cost control, and resource
allocation.
- Risk management and project controls.
- Construction documentation and project reporting.
- Change order management and project closeout
procedures.
- Leadership, team development, and stakeholder
management.
- Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace, Blackboard,
Canvas, or similar platforms.
- Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and
PowerPoint.
- Virtual learning technologies such as Microsoft Teams and
Zoom.
This position may require instruction at both Kennedy-King College
and Dawson Technical Institute locations. Courses may be offered
during daytime, evening, and/or weekend hours based on program
needs.
Salary Range: $60 per instructional hour
