Job Summary
The Event Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering student success, belonging, and academic recovery by designing and delivering impactful events and initiatives for academically at-risk and first-generation students. This position will lead the planning and execution of student-centered programs, coordinate celebrations of achievement, and build meaningful connections between students, faculty, and administration. Additionally, the coordinator will provide light case management for teens transitioning into adulthood and supervise a part-time student staff member.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Event Planning & Facilitation
- Initiate, design, and implement workshops, recognition events, and engagement activities that support student retention and academic success
- Coordinate logistics for events that connect students with faculty, staff, and campus resources
- Develop programming that affirms community college student experiences and promotes belonging
Collaboration & Partnerships
- Collaborate with departments such as Advising, Thayne Center, PACE, STEM Tutoring, Counseling, Writing Center, and TRIO to co-host events and share resources
- Serve as a liaison to faculty and student services to align programming with student needs
- Partner with mentoring programs to support students in transition
Student Support & Case Management
- Provide light case management for students (especially teens and young adults) navigating academic and personal transitions
- Connect students with mentors, academic support, and community resources
- Track student progress and follow up on referrals
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and mentor a part-time student staff member
- Delegate tasks related to event setup, outreach, and peer engagement
- Model professionalism and inclusive leadership
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in education, social work, communications, or related field (Associate's degree with 1 year of related full-time experience as substitute)
- Experience working with first-generation, academically at-risk, or non-traditional student populations
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in event planning, student affairs, or academic support services
- Familiarity with case management or mentoring models
- Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus
