Core Faculty - Director of Didactic Education
Job Summary
The Director of Didactic Education is a core faculty member who will oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of the didactic phase of the Physician Assistant (PA) Program. In addition to teaching responsibilities, this individual will provide leadership for curriculum development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement to ensure compliance with ARC-PA Standards and alignment with the program's mission. The Director of Didactic Education will work closely with faculty, staff, and the Program Director to support student success in the pre-clinical phase of the curriculum and ensure a smooth transition to the clinical phase.
Key Responsibilities
Didactic Education Leadership (Primary Role):
- Provide oversight and coordination of all aspects of the didactic phase of the PA curriculum.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop, implement, and evaluate didactic courses and instructional methods.
- Ensure didactic curriculum aligns with ARC-PA Standards, PAEA Core Curriculum, and program learning outcomes.
- Monitor student performance and progression throughout the didactic year, identifying students in need of remediation and supporting their success.
- Lead continuous quality improvement processes related to the didactic phase, including curriculum mapping, exam review, and data-driven modifications.
- Support integration of clinical reasoning, interprofessional education, simulation, and other active learning methods into the curriculum.
- Coordinate scheduling of didactic courses, lectures, and faculty assignments.
- Serve as a primary contact for student concerns related to the didactic phase.
Core Faculty Responsibilities:
- Teach and assess students in assigned didactic courses.
- Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to PA students.
- Participate in admissions, faculty meetings, and assigned committees.
- Contribute to program assessment and accreditation activities, including data collection, reporting, and participation in self-study.
- Engage in scholarly activity and professional development to maintain excellence in PA education.
- Support the program's mission to prepare PAs for practice in diverse healthcare settings, including underserved areas.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current NCCPA certification and eligibility for licensure as a PA in [state].
- Master's degree required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice experience.
- Knowledge of ARC-PA accreditation standards and curriculum design.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Commitment to fostering student success and a collaborative faculty environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in PA education is strongly preferred.
- Experience in didactic curriculum development, exam design, and student assessment.
- Experience with innovative teaching strategies, including simulation, case-based learning, and team-based learning.
- Involvement with professional organizations (e.g., PAEA, AAPA).
