Summary
Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning and build the Department of Counseling.
Duties
- Teaches and supervises a 12-credit course load teaching counseling classes within the Department of Counseling and supports active engagement and learning in online synchronous and asynchronous formats.
- Coordinates the school counseling specialty.
- Works toward establishing a program chapter of CSI and maintains it.
- Manages the duties of the ACEP Administrator and collaborates with area agencies, providing support and professional development to area counselors.
- Supervises clinical experiences online as needed.
- Develops syllabi, maintains materials, and supplies for the classes assigned.
- Advises graduate-level counseling students.
- Collaborates with colleagues in the Department of Counseling, the College of Education, and the broader university.
- Assists with maintaining CACREP accreditation.
- Conducts research program or other scholarship activities suitable to a small, teaching university.
- Participates in departmental and university committees and special projects.
- Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Background
Doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or have related doctoral degrees and have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
Job Knowledge
Knowledge of and experience with multicultural populations. Knowledge and experience specific to the complexities of teaching in rural and high-poverty schools including students with high-incidence disabilities, and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Knowledgeable about research-based practices for preparing quality professionals who can deliver differentiated core standards-based curriculum to students with varied learning and behavior needs. Experience working in diverse ethno-linguistic environments to promote education change and social justice for the success and empowerment of all learners. Experience in the area of research and assessment of teacher education programs. Experience in teaching online, web-based, and video-conference environment. Demonstrated potential for contributions to the advancement of equitable education through research, innovative instruction, program development, and service to the community. Must be able to adapt to instructional needs of the department depending on circumstances. Must be knowledgeable of University policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)
Normal office, may travel some within the community when needed. May be required to transport normal office equipment and materials. Ability to comprehend and work with a variety of information from various sources. Able to clearly communicate with a diverse population of individuals. Ability to compose correspondence and reports and remain in a sedentary position for prolonged periods of time. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
