Criminal Justice Instructor - FT Tenure Track
Job Description
The SUNY Orange Criminal Justice Department is excited to be seeking a faculty member to help grow our already strong program and prepare students for work or future study in the Criminal Justice field. The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, a strong foundation in Criminal Justice, and will be able to teach a variety of courses in the department.
The individual who fills this position will teach a full load of 30 credits /year in course offerings. Teaching assignments may include:
- Criminal Justice
- Police Organization & Administration
- Police Community Relations
- Patrol Operations
- Criminology
- Criminalistics
- Criminal Investigation
- Other related courses.
This position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities, including participation in curriculum and course development, departmental planning, course assessment, attendance at department and college meetings, participation on department and Governance committees, student advising and other duties as assigned.
Instructors are expected to participate in College and Department assessment initiatives.
Teaching assignments may be on the Middletown campus, the Newburgh campus, or via remote instruction.
Job Requirements:
Education Required: J.D. or Master's Degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, or another closely-related field.
Experience Required: Work experience in the criminal justice field; demonstrated teaching experience
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
- Five Years of demonstrated experience in Law Enforcement
- Experience teaching in a community college setting
- Evidence of scholarly research and/or publication in Criminology and/or Criminal Justice.
- Expertise to teach Cybersecurity, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and/or Criminal Procedures
- Expertise to teach State and Local Government courses
- Experience with technologies used in law enforcement
- Curricular development experience
- Experience with D2L Brightspace or other comparable learning management systems
- Willingness to establish and maintain strong faculty-student relationships
- A commitment to the use of various instructional strategies, which model effective teaching practice
- Experience organizing and carrying out teaching-related professional development opportunities
- Experience with inclusive and/or culturally responsive pedagogy
- Bilingual Skills

Salary: $63,981 per annum, this is a 10 month Faculty position
