Position Details
Within the Office of Student Affairs at the City University of New York (CUNY) Central Office, the CUNY Adaptive Sports Program was launched in 2017 as part of the Inclusive & Adaptive Sports Platform, breaking ground with wheelchair basketball in 2019-the first collegiate program of its kind on the East Coast. Since then, CUNY Adaptive Sports has grown into a leading hub for inclusive athletics, advancing opportunity, equity, and community for students with disabilities across 14 campuses.
Reporting to the Director of CUNY Disability Programs, the Administrative Coordinator supports the daily operations, event management, and student engagement efforts of the program. The role combines administrative coordination with programmatic and assistant coaching responsibilities, helping to ensure seamless delivery of services to student-athletes, coaches, and community partners.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support, including scheduling, correspondence, purchasing, and recordkeeping.
- Coordinate special events, practices, and competitions across multiple sports; oversee game-day logistics, set-up/breakdown, and staff assignments.
- Monitor budgets for uniforms, equipment, travel, and game operations; work with the Business Office to process invoices, stipends, and reimbursements.
- Maintain databases and records of student-athletes, participation, and events to support reporting and compliance with institutional and conference guidelines.
- Support team travel planning, including transportation, accommodations, and meals.
- Promote the program through marketing, community engagement, public speaking, and fundraising initiatives.
- Partner with the Sports Information Director to provide timely details for game recaps, highlights, and outreach materials.
- Assist with student-athlete recruitment, admissions documentation, and competition registration.
- Support student-athletes’ academic progress by coordinating referrals to appropriate resources when needed.
- Assist coaches during practices and competitions by demonstrating techniques, contributing to strategies, and providing direct support to athletes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
NOTES: Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Travel may be required to CUNY campuses across New York City’s 5 boroughs. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
Qualifications
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred
- Experience in administrative support, program coordination, or event management, ideally within higher education, student affairs, athletics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with budgeting, purchasing, or financial tracking in a university or organizational setting.
- Knowledge of athletics administration, recreation, or adaptive/inclusive sports.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration and conferencing tools (MS Teams, Zoom), databases and/or student information systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations, including students with disabilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel across NYC’s five boroughs as needed.
CUNY Title Overview
Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department. Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information. Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections. Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities. Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing. Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department. May supervise office staff and student workers. Performs related duties as assigned.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range is $53,003 - $54,934 commensurate with credentials, education, and experience.
