Position Purpose: The Custodial Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, safety, and longevity of custodial equipment by performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and coordination of equipment servicing. This role supports efficient custodial operations by minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring equipment is maintained in proper working condition.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp
High School plus 3+ years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- High School Diploma and three to five (3-5) or more years’ experience in mechanical diagnosis and repair or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of mechanical make-up, operation, and working relationships of equipment systems, assemblies, and parts.
- Experience with electrical diagnosis and tools, electrical shock safety, and chemical safety.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and appliances.
- Experience with work order processing systems.
- Strong communications skills and customer service orientation. Ability to communicate effectively and to interact successfully with FO&M employees. Ability to give and to follow directions orally and in writing.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy

Key Accountabilities
Maintenance Responsibilities (90%)
- Primary responsibility for day-to-day and routine maintenance of cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers/waxers/buffers, carpet shampooers, vacuum cleaners, and other hand operated tools.
- Inspect equipment components (e.g., welds, bolts, nuts, pads, straps, chains) for cracks, breaks, wear, or other signs of damage, as applicable. Maintain accurate logs and documentation of all repairs and maintenance performed on custodial equipment. Establish inventory and maintenance plans within established integrated work management software (Planon). Order, receive, and organize parts and supplies associated with equipment maintenance operations.
- Replace worn or broken parts and perform repairs; coordinate and schedule maintenance with external vendors covered under service or maintenance agreements when necessary. Use appropriate diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and identify equipment operational defects.
- Respond to service orders for custodial staff who need equipment repairs or maintenance at their locations.
- Prepare and provide bi-annual equipment report to the Director of Custodial Services, identifying equipment that needs to be replaced within the fiscal year.

Working Conditions
- Work requires bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in cramped or awkward positions.
- Work involves regular lifting, carrying, and holding objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work involves regular stair climbing in buildings of 4 to 5 levels.
- Work is performed: indoors, outdoors, in bad weather, in areas that are noisy, dirty, or smoky.
- Work involves exposure to hazards from electric shock, burns, cuts, and chemical fumes.
- Work involves wearing special or protective clothing such as aprons or overalls, gloves, and goggles or masks.
