About the role:
The UNSW IT Cyber Security directorate drives the strategic uplift of cyber security across the University. With several major cyber initiatives underway, this role plays a key part in their success.
The Cyber IAM Technical Project Manager is responsible for delivering complex, technology-led initiatives within the University’s Cyber Security Enablement Program - a multi-year program focused on materially reducing cyber security risk through modern identity and access capabilities and business transformation.
The role is primarily accountable for managing and successfully delivering multiple concurrent IAM projects, with a strong emphasis on technical implementation of Saviynt Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) solution. This includes leading the delivery of capabilities such as identity lifecycle management, authentication and federation, access governance, and application integration, ensuring alignment with the University’s 2023 IAM Strategy, enterprise architecture, and cyber security standards.
Accountabilities:
- Plan, lead, and deliver Saviynt IGA solution as part of a broader Cyber Security and IAM program, managing interdependencies across systems such as directories (e.g. AD, Microsoft Entra ID), HR systems, student systems, and enterprise applications.
- Drive end-to-end delivery of IGA capabilities, including identity lifecycle management (joiner/mover/leaver), access request and approval workflows, role-based access control (RBAC), certification campaigns, and segregation of duties (SoD), ensuring alignment with the University’s IAM strategy and security standards.
- Define and manage detailed technical scope, requirements, and success criteria for IGA onboarding and integrations, ensuring solutions meet security, compliance, audit, and data governance requirements.
- Collaborate closely with enterprise and solution architects, engineers, and vendors to translate business requirements into scalable IGA designs and ensure successful implementation across authoritative sources and target systems.
- Establish and maintain effective project governance, apply structured delivery methodologies, and proactively managing risks, issues, dependencies, and technical constraints.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocations, ensuring alignment with technical workstreams (e.g. IGA platform, application onboarding, data integration, and access governance), vendor deliverables, and integration milestones.
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and vendors to translate business requirements into actionable technical outcomes and ensure successful implementation of IAM capabilities.
Who you are:
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex, enterprise-scale technology projects across the full project lifecycle, with a strong focus on cyber security and identity domains, including: Identity and Access Management, Identity Governance and Administration.
- Strong technical expertise in IGA implementation.
- End-to-end delivery of IGA platforms (e.g., onboarding, configuration, and rollout of identity governance capabilities).
- Design and implementation of Joiner–Mover–Leaver (JML) processes and automated access lifecycle management.
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and/or Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) design and optimization.
- Certification and attestation campaigns (e.g., access reviews, SoD controls), Segregation of Duties (SoD) modelling, rule definition, and conflict management.
- Integration with authoritative sources (e.g., HR systems, Student systems) and downstream target systems (applications, directories, SaaS).
- Technical experience in API-based and connector-based integrations (e.g., SCIM, REST, LDAP, AD, cloud identity platforms).
- Strong technical delivery capability, with experience managing projects involving complex integrations across identity platforms, directories, authentication services, and enterprise applications.
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams of architects, engineers, business analysts, and vendors to deliver secure and scalable IAM/IGA solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex technical concepts into business outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience applying structured delivery methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, PMBOK, Agile/Hybrid), with strong governance, risk, and assurance practices.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
- Experience in the University and/or Higher Education sector would be highly advantageous.
