Cyber Security Senior Business Analyst
Job Description:
- Daily rate contract, 6 month role, within UNSW IT, Cyber Security Senior Business Analyst
- Kensington, Sydney with Flexible and or Hybrid working ( 2 days in the office )
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Cyber Business Analyst will support the delivery of the University’s Cyber Security Enablement Program (the Program), a multi-year initiative designed to materially reduce the University’s exposure to cyber security risk through the implementation of technology and business changes. The primary purpose of the Senior Cyber Business Analyst is to lead the bridge between business needs and cybersecurity objectives - ensuring that cyber initiatives are not just technically sound but also align with organizational goals and UNSW operational realities.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Play a key role in the delivery of Cyber Security projects, collaborating with project managers, project and BAU teams, vendors, and business users to manage scope, conduct impact assessments, perform risk analysis, support testing, and co-ordinate stakeholders for successful outcomes.
- Develop detailed business and technical requirements for the implementation of cyber security solutions aligned to program objectives.
- Lead workshops and interviews to capture and validate functional and non-functional requirements, ensuring clear communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Translate requirements into clear business cases, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Analyse operational requirements, problems, and opportunities, and propose effective business solutions through automation and/or process change, including documentation of current and future state business processes and operating model impacts.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new support and/or operating models suitable for the University environment.
- Support procurement, design, development, change management, implementation, testing, and acceptance activities for cyber security solutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, balancing competing priorities and objectives with confidence and clarity.

- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health & safety of yourself or others.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years’ experience in business analysis, requirements gathering, and business process analysis, including at least 2 years within cyber security projects using appropriate frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in documenting requirements, process mapping, and developing user stories.
- Substantial knowledge and hands-on experience across key cyber security domains and/or initiatives including: Cloud infrastructure and security within AWS and Azure environments. Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC), DevOps and SecDevOps practices. Endpoint security. Data security. Zero Trust.
- Knowledge of industry security standards and compliance frameworks such as NIST, Essential Eight, SOCI, and ISO/IEC 27001.
- Experience with Service management tools and cyber security solutions such as JIRA, Confluence, Miro, SharePoint, Excel, Visio, Lacework, Checkmarx, Tenable, Purview, CrowdStrike.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply initiative, flexibility, and proactive thinking in developing robust solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills including advanced written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail. and the ability to perform effectively under highdemand situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at multiple levels across an organisation.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to change, and meet deadlines using sound judgement and initiative.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Experience in the University / Higher Education sector.
- Strong understanding of industry-wide security standards and compliance and Service Management frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001, NIST, PCI DSS, HIPAA, GDPR, ITIL etc.
- Experience participating in Cyber security uplift projects and/or Cyber transformation programs will be highly regarded.
