  • This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates only; as a special measure to address the under-representation of Indigenous/Torres Strait Islander peoples in research data and digital research infrastructure roles
  • This is a full-time fixed-term position for up to 12 months with salary in the range $83,776 - $93,121 (HEW 5), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. - Based at our St Lucia campus

About This Opportunity

Join the ARDC in a high-impact internship designed to accelerate Australian research excellence. You will collaborate with the Director of the Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Indigenous Research Data Commons (HASS & IRDC) and the project team at the Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA). This role is a vital talent pipeline, aiming to enhance the readiness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates for a career in research infrastructure while promoting best practices in Indigenous data governance under the CARE principles.

Key responsibilities will include:

Administrative & Technical Research Support

  • Provide high-level project management support for LDaCA and assist the HASS & IRDC leadership with activities related to Indigenous data and governance.

Data Pipelines & Coding

  • Write, test, and maintain code to support data preparation pipelines and internal technical tools, troubleshooting issues in a development environment.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and sustain relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders, contributing prototypes and ideas to explore new research methods.

Cultural Leadership

  • Promote and implement Indigenous data governance standards, ensuring research infrastructure respects and empowers Indigenous communities.

About You

The ideal candidate is an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander professional who blends analytical thinking with a passion for community-led research. You are tech-savvy, eager to learn new systems, and committed to high standards of data integrity and Indigenous governance.

Essential

  • Certificate III/IV, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (preference for Data Science, Education, or Indigenous Studies).
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Google Suite, with a foundational understanding of data entry, data cleaning, and metadata standards.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments with diplomacy and sound judgement.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Indigenous research, programming languages (e.g., JavaScript), Linux environments, or project coordination.
