Biblical Principles and Expectations: Faculty help to further Malone’s mission to provide students with an education based on biblical faith in order to develop men and women in intellectual maturity, wisdom, and Christian faith who are committed to serving the Church, community, and world.
I. University Overview
Affiliated with the Evangelical Friends-Eastern Region denomination, Malone strives to provide an education that produces graduates with a love of truth and a vibrant, mature faith. Our intent is that students attain the wisdom, knowledge, and skills necessary to serve, engage, and transform the communities in which they live and work. To this end, we provide the curricular and co-curricular context in which to pursue the following educational goals:
- Understand and critically engage those bodies of knowledge and cultural influences that have shaped the world.
- Understand the biblical, historical, and theological foundations of the Christian faith.
- Think critically and creatively and communicate effectively in multiple contexts.
- Attain expertise in at least one profession or academic discipline and lay the foundation for meaningful work or further studies at the graduate level.
- Explore the implications of the Christian faith for all areas of living, including intellectual, spiritual, and community pursuits.
II. University Expectations
- A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, all faculty must affirm Malone’s Doctrinal Statement and agree to live in keeping with Malone’s Community Agreement.

III. Job Summary
Reporting to the Provost, and collaborating with the Associate Provost and other Deans, the Dean manages and oversees all divisional programs within the context of university functions, supervises all division faculty, fosters excellence in teaching and learning, provides program development, and (where applicable) accreditation expertise by monitoring and facilitating assessment and accreditation requirements and processes.
IV. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties, tasks and responsibilities: (The following duties are not to be considered a complete list of duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.) The Dean will function as an academic administrator with the following responsibilities:
I. Divisional Oversight
- Assign instructional responsibilities, prepare course schedules and teaching loads as reflected on the Universal Load Sheet
- Prepare and monitor annual budget, including funds for grants and appropriations
- Coordinate division meetings, events, and awarding of student honors
- Review and update divisional/programmatic information continued in university academic catalog annually
- Coordinate with Program Coordinators to work with Admissions and the Registrar’s office in the evaluation of program applicants and transfer students
- Coordinate representation of faculty at recruitment events
- Respond to student inquiries and concerns regarding course and faculty issues; serve as divisional evaluator in case of student appeals to the division
- Coordinate advising/mentoring of students by faculty including arrangements with the Center for Student Success and other university offices
- Recruit, retain, supervise, and evaluate qualified faculty members (full time and adjunct) to meet program needs
- Promote and encourage faculty development through research, publication, and grant solicitation
- Cooperate with other divisions and programs in the development of interdisciplinary programs, accreditation responses, and specialized licenses or certifications
- Monitor and edit the division webpage
- Assist in the development of new programs and initiatives in consultation with the Associate Provost and Provost
- Oversee, in conjunction with Program Coordinators, unscheduled program review if deemed necessary
- Represent the division on institutional committees
- Collaborate with the Director of Library Services and program faculty to ensure appropriate materials are available for student learning
II. Faculty Support and Evaluation
- Collaborate with and provide support for faculty in the development and delivery of instructional assignments;
- Foster good teaching and advise faculty on teaching methodologies
- Advocate for and facilitate faculty members ongoing professional development
- Review and give feedback to faculty regarding teaching evaluations and student concerns
- Regularly observe faculty teaching
- Make recommendations regarding promotion and tenure
III. Accreditation and Assessment
- Provide leadership and advisement within and associated to the division on matters related to accreditation and assessment
- Oversee tracking systems and processes to ensure institutional and program-specific accreditation criteria are being met
- Engage stakeholders and program alumni in evaluation of program effectiveness and community needs for changes in existing programs or the creation of new programs
- Conduct advisory board meetings for academic programs
- Work with Program Coordinators to coordinate tasks related to accreditation and approvals and facilitate preparation of required reports for internal and external stakeholders, organize site visits and follow up responses.

- Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission, foundational principles, and educational goals.
- Commitment to the integration of faith and learning in the academic discipline
VI. Education and Experience
- Ph.D., D.M.A. or terminal degree in Business or closely related field completed by the date of application preferred
- Professional experience appropriate to appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor required
- Progressively responsible administrative roles within an academic setting, preferably at the level of department chair or higher, required
