Dean, Indigenous Research and Innovation
At this unique moment in South Australia’s history, Adelaide University seeks its inaugural Dean, Indigenous Research and Innovation, to lead the development and delivery of culturally safe, world-class research strategies. Working closely with the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Indigenous, and in partnership with communities, cultural organisations, and government bodies, the Dean will play a pivotal role in embedding Indigenous knowledge and priorities across the University’s research landscape. The Dean will guide the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Strategy, foster innovative research partnerships, and strengthen the visibility of Indigenous scholarship across all disciplines. They will drive the recruitment, development, and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers, ensuring pathways for academic excellence are nurtured and sustained.
The Dean will also work across the full breadth of research at the University, demonstrating comfort with all disciplines and the ability to bridge between communities and research. Central to the position is fostering connections among University researchers and uplifting Indigenous research across the five priority Strategic Research Themes in the University’s Research Strategy. The Dean will assist in identifying opportunities where research across disciplines can contribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander priorities, and support researchers in translating this work into meaningful outcomes.
The successful candidate will bring proven expertise in advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research within complex, multi-stakeholder environments. They will demonstrate the ability to inspire and lead high-performing teams, foster strong relationships across diverse communities, and deliver strategies with impact. Exceptional leadership, cultural fluency, and a strong record of achievement in Indigenous research and innovation are essential, as is the ability to influence, innovate, and exercise sound judgement in matters of strategic importance.
