Dean of Counseling, Advising, and Matriculation
The Role
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Services, the Dean of Counseling/Advising & Matriculation provides strategic and operational leadership for a broad portfolio of student services. This includes oversight of: Counseling Services, Promise Scholars Program, Transfer Center, Career Center, Personal Counseling, Health and Wellness Services, Undocu Community Center, and Student Life and Leadership.
In addition, the Dean oversees related areas such as EOPS/CARE, Educational Access Center, Learning Communities, Matriculation, Assessment, Articulation, New Student Orientation, Student Employment, and co-manages the One-Stop Student Services Center alongside the Dean of Enrollment Services.
The Dean will guide the division in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating student success initiatives while ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, California Education Code, Title 5, and district policies. This role manages budgets, personnel, and grants, while fostering collaboration between Student Services and instructional divisions to create a student-centered educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, management, and development for day, evening, and weekend counseling programs and related student support services.
- Plan and conduct needs assessments and implement services to support student retention, transfer, and success.
- Oversee curriculum development, class scheduling, and program articulation agreements.
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate faculty and staff; promote professional development.
- Lead annual planning and budgeting processes for the division, including grant-funded initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and accreditation requirements.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to integrate student services with academic programs.
- Serve as an active member of the College's administrative team, contributing to institution-wide planning and problem-solving.
Job Requirements
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution OR the equivalent
- One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
Preferred
- Experience as a community college counselor, instructor, or student services supervisor.
- Knowledge of counseling, curriculum, assessment, retention, articulation, transfer, and graduation processes.
- Proven ability in budget and grant management, strategic planning, and program development.
- Familiarity with accreditation standards, California Education Code, Title 5, and collective bargaining agreements.

Position is designated as a Mandated Reporter under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and a Responsible Employee under the Equity in Education Act and Title IX.
