Position Summary:

The Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College. The Dean provides visionary leadership to advance the College’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, creative expression, and community engagement. The role requires a dynamic, collaborative, and inclusive leader who can foster interdisciplinary innovation and promote the College’s contributions to the university and broader society.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the University’s vision and priorities. Promote innovative program development, interdisciplinary collaboration across departments and with external partners, and academic excellence.
• Academic Excellence: Ensure high-quality academic programs across departments such as History, Literature, Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, Media Studies, and Fine Arts. Oversee program quality, accreditation, and curriculum development. Ensure effective academic advising, student recruitment, retention, and graduation.
• Faculty and Staff Development: Recruit, retain, and support diverse and talented faculty and staff. Promote professional development, mentorship, and a culture of academic excellence and innovation. Promote an inclusive, collegial environment that values teaching, scholarship, and service.
• Student Success: Champion initiatives that enhance student learning, engagement, and career readiness. Foster inclusive learning environments and support student advising and retention efforts.
• Research and Creative Work: Encourage and support scholarly research, creative expression, and public scholarship. Facilitate access to funding and collaborative opportunities.
• Community Engagement: Strengthen partnerships with local, regional, and international communities. Promote the College’s role in cultural enrichment, civic engagement, and public discourse. Represent the college at university functions, public events, and professional meetings.
• Operational Management: Oversee budgets, resource allocation, and administrative operations. Ensure compliance with university policies and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in a discipline within the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
• Proven record of academic leadership and administrative experience at the department chair or dean level.
• Minimum of 5 years progressive leadership or administrative experience in higher education.
• Distinguished record of teaching, research, and service.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in strategic planning, budget management, strategic planning, and curriculum development.

Preferred Attributes:

• Experience in international education and cross-cultural engagement.
• Familiarity with the higher education landscape in the UAE or the MENA region (preferred).
• Ability to inspire faculty, staff, and students toward shared goals.
• Visionary leadership with a student-centered and faculty-empowering approach.
