Job Summary

The incumbent serves as principal academic officer for the School of Education & Psychology and Is responsible for the academic, personnel, financial, and administrative affairs of the school. He/she ensures that the school’s academic programs are aliened with the university’s mission-linked strategic priorities while providing leadership and guidance in all aspects or the school, including teaching, research, intellectual development, program development, advancement, administrative management and representation of the school.

  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting and resource development to achieve strategic objectives
  • Demonstrated skills and experience 1n successful team building, staff development and conflict resolution
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Skills in cross-cultural communication and multi-cultural competence
  • Demonstrate ability to provide effective leadership and maintain the respect of the departments supervised
  • Demonstrated ability to develop programs and work effectively with students, faculty and staff form diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, advise. and work collaboratively with faculty, students and others
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level
  • Ability to enhance the network of alumni, students, and the professional and local community to facilitate development, recruitment and fundraising

Essential Job Functions

  • Articulates I clear vision for the future of practice, education and research In the field of education and psychology that reflects • commitment to the exemplary education of undergraduate and graduate students
  • Provides leadership and coordinates periodic curriculum reviews in the division; Makes appropriate recommendations to the Provost/ VP for Academic Affairs
  • Services as an authority on all facets of elementary education, secondary education on and special education; develops and maintains a database on the number of students taking and passing such examinations as the Praxis, NTE and ORE (Database to include a profile on each student)
  • Works closely with departmental chairpersons to identify and recommend highly qualified persons to fill departmental vacancies
  • Analyzes enrollment patterns, develops plans for growth enrollment and develops plans to utilize resources most efficiently; recommends staffing plans
  • Recommends the hiring, promotion, tenure, salaries and termination of departmental chairpersons in the division, with appropriate supportin1 documentation
  • Works closely with departments to prepare and recommend divisional budgets
  • Works closely with departmental chairpersons to ensure that effective faculty schedules are provided and submitted to the Provost/Senior VP for Academic Affairs
  • Promotes and facilitates the professional growth and development of faculty and staff in the division, as documented by plans of action
  • Provides leadership and assistance to faculty in the division in the areas of grantsmanship, research and public services
  • Ensures there is proper quality control in each department so that students recommended for graduation meet established requirements
  • Works closely with departmental chairpersons to ensure that effective student advisement systems and procedures are maintained
  • Works closely with recruiters to ensure that strong students are recruited for the teacher education program consistent with the department’s enrollment goals
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Record commensurate with appointment to the rank of Associate or Professor Administrative and budgetary experience at the level of department chair, Associate Dean. Dean, and/or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated record of excellence In teaching, service, scholarship and research reflected In an established record or publications c1nd research, and scholarly presentations
  • Record of increasingly responsible leadership and supervisory experience In higher education
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development and evaluation of teacher education
  • Evidence of effectively fostering application of innovative learning theories and methods
  • Experience with branch campus and distance learning
