Deputy Biofacility Manager - Aquatics

Deputy Biofacility Manager - Aquatics

We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Deputy Biofacility Manager to be part of a friendly, hardworking aquatics team across busy biomedical facilities situated in Cambridge.

You will assist the Aquatics Facilities Manager / NACWO with the day to day management of the multiple aquatics facilities, housing Zebrafish, Medaka and Xenopus, and will deputise in their absence. You will coordinate the animal husbandry work, supervising a team of technicians, coordinating the activity and staffing allocations of the team to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the facilities and maintain high standards of animal care and welfare. You will assist the Aquatics Facilities Manager / NACWO with the recruitment, training and assessment of new staff with in-house policies and procedures as well as working to Home Office regulations and performance management. You will undertake both licenced and unlicensed scientific procedures along with daily husbandry and aquatics systems maintenance to assist the technicians as required. You will be responsible for the maintenance of all necessary records, referring any issues and concerns to the Aquatics Facilities Manager / NACWO as necessary.

You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, with experience supervising or managing staff. You will have IAT Level 3 or equivalent, Home Office Licence modules A - C and will be a Personal Licence holder. In depth experience of working within aquatics facilities is essential, as are excellent communication skills. You must be able to use a computerised data management system and have previous experience working in a supervisory / team leader role. Knowledge of relevant Home Office, and Health and Safety legislation is important, as is knowledge and experience in the principles of aquatics health monitoring, cryopreservation and specialised breeding techniques.

The aquatics facilities operates a rota system to provide animal care and essential husbandry at weekends and over Bank Holidays. The role holder will be required to participate on an out of hours call out list also.

Funding for this role is currently confirmed until July 2027, with possibility for extension.

In addition to the base salary stated above, the successful candidate for this post will receive an additional 2.5% supplement to their pay.
